Global Youth Service Day - April 23, 2010

I volunteered to help fix up the Sasha Bruce Group home in Northeast DC. This facility helps so many teens who wouldn't have anywhere else to go.

Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning.

April is National Volunteer Month!!!

National Volunteer Month is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their community. It’s about demonstrating to the nation that by working together, in unison, we have the fortitude to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals. National Volunteer Month is about taking action, encouraging individuals and their respective communities to be at the center of social change—discovering and actively demonstrating their collective power to foster positive transformation.

National Volunteer Month presents an opportunity for individuals, families, nonprofit organizations and government entities alike to celebrate the ordinary people who accomplish extraordinary things through service.

Queendom T.E.A. - March 6, 2010

I spoke to members of the Queendom T.E.A about the importance of community service today.... it was a great opportunity to meet with other teens and talk about the value of working in the community. Laquisha Hall, Mrs. Maryland Galaxy 2009, created Queendom T.E.A to encourage mentorship and education.

We Are Family Senior Outreach Network - February 20, 2010

A great opportunity to work with about 35 other people at the Metropolitan Community Church in NW Washington. We prepared about 200 bags of groceries and then delivered them to seniors living in the North Capitol Street, Columbia Heights, Park View, Adams-Morgan, and Shaw neighborhoods. It was a wonderful chance to meet people and provide much needed help to these seniors.
